When I am ran down with anxiety, don’t exercise, don’t eat a good diet or am just generally blue, I tend to get one every month.
When I went through a particularly rough time in 2017, I was getting them every other week, one would clear up and it seemed I would get another one.
I was at my wits end and scoured the internet for anything that would help end this torture. The doctors idea of help was ‘zovirax’, once a cold sore started to appear. Anyone who suffers with cold sores, wouldn’t wish them on anyone. They tend to appear when you are already run down or blue, adding to the misery you are suffering ten fold.
Since I found this miracle cure out, I haven’t had a cold sore.
What is this miracle cure you ask? It’s an essential amino acid… known as
L-Lysine.

This amino acid is abundant in poultry, beef, milk, pumpkin seeds, chickpeas, lentils and catfish.
The body cannot produce it. Hence why it is ‘essential’.
If you take this as a supplement, it can prevent cold sores occurring. Also, if you get a cold sore, taking this supplement can speed the healing time up by two thirds!
Initially trialling this, I bought some tablets from amazon. 1,000mg to be precise. I had a coldsore at the time of them appearing, I took 3 a day, the cold sore cleared up a lot faster. After that, I took one tablet every other day.
I didn’t get a coldsore for months. I stopped taking them for a few months and got a cold sore. I started taking lysine three times a day when it occurred. Surprise surprise, it cleared up a lot faster.

I don’t take the supplement everyday now, but I take 2/3 times a week, just for preventative measures. I haven’t had a cold sore in a long time.
– Preventing cold sores and treating them –
To prevent cold sores, I maintain my l-lysine levels by supplementation. This helps alleviate flare ups and keeps l-lysine levels constant in the body.
If you are prone to them, you could try to take it once a day, then reduce to once or twice a week. (Check with a medical professional).
If you get a cold sore, still treat as your doctor suggests (for example with zovirax, or 5% aciclovir cream).
By taking 2-3 tablets of l-lysine, I fight the virus from the inside. It makes an amazing difference in healing times. I had to try it to believe it.
I told my friend about this, she was suffering like me. She hasn’t had a cold sore since and was so grateful I told her this. Same for my other friends boyfriend and he’s never had one since either.
Something that the doctors won’t tell you.
